Aspen Fire Department will not do a Wildfire Risk Assessment unless requested by the homeowner.
When performing a Wildfire Assessment on a property, we normally do so with respect to recommendations put forth by the Colorado State University and the Colorado Forest Service. We also use a holistic approach in relation to the property and the neighborhood.
Completing the written report is usually done offsite after the onsite inspection so it may take up to a week from the time of inspection to receive the report via email.
DISCLAIMER -- The property owner has read and understands the following:
While the purpose of the Home Risk Assessment is to reduce the risk of fire damage to one’s home or property, following the requirements in the Assessment report does not guarantee prevention of such damage. Wildfire mitigation work around your home can give firefighters the best chance to defend and protect your property from wildfires and also substantially increase your safety and reduce the risk to life and property. However, wildfire is unpredictable and can be impossible to stop or control, regardless of what mitigation efforts you have taken. The Aspen Fire Department makes no warranties, guarantees or representations of any kind with respective to the effectiveness of any mitigation efforts you undertake in connection with your participation in the wildfire assessment program.

Yes, any home or building within the Aspen Fire Protection District can and should be evaluated for its wildfire risk.

Q: Who can do the recommended mitigation?
There are many local tree companies and landscapers that can do the recommended mitigation work or you can do it on your own, the choice is up to you.
